Step by Step install instructions
K-9 Katch/Kattle Keeper is a fence design that is comprised of steel tubing that is installed at a 45° angle downstream.
The tubing is installed by using K-9 Katch template (small) or Kattle Keeper template (large). The templates help maintain a consistent distance between tubing at the base and at the top of your K-9 Katch/Kattle Keeper fence. A correct angle of 45° is essential in minimizing the resistance from the fence and the downward force of gravity.
Trying to install such a fence without a template will result in a fence that has drastic variances in the spacing between the tubing and/or with individual members that point in awkward directions. This fence is designed to allow the rising and lowering of debris along with the water level, thus allowing the debris to move upward and over the fence.
The two critical factors when it comes to installing K-9 Katch/Kattle Keeper are:
1. Fence is installed at a 45° angle downstream (leaning downstream)
2. Fence is installed at 90° perpendicular to the flow of water.
a. 90° perpendicular has priority over fence being parallel to fence line, always make sure K-9 Katch/Kattle Keeper fences are entirely on your property
b. Improper installation will result in unnecessary erosion on the outer bank where your fence crosses the creek/wash.
Easy Installation
Things You will Need
K-9 Katch (Small ) = Installs 7 post per every 3 linear ft. across creek
Kattle Keeper (Large ) = Installs 6 post per every 4 linear ft. across creek
Step 1. SMALL template-Install one metal post through each rectangular front slots and corresponding back slots. Set your template with arrow on top pointing downstream at a 45° angle.
LARGE template-Install 2x4 lumber through each rectangular front slot and corresponding back slots. Set your template with arrow on top pointing downstream at a 45° angle.
Step 2. Place template on creek bed at 90° Perpendicular to flow of water (dig out dirt under kit for proper leveling) For wide creeks, streams etc. start in middle and work out towards creek banks.
***Critical--Fence must be installed at 90°perpendicular to flow of water, for maximum water flow and minimal bank erosion***
Step 3. Insert a pipe in one of the top holes and push through corresponding bottom holes until it touches the ground.
Step 4. Use T-post pounder to drive post half its length into ground at a 45° angle.
Step 5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until all holes have a post installed through them.
Step 6. Remove pipes (or 2x4 lumber) in rectangular slots. Slots are for initial startup only. Remove template from diagonal pipes installed in ground.
***Pipes made of softer metals may mushroom at the top of pipe***
***May require cutting off top inch of pipes to remove install template***
Step 7. Shift template left or right and reinstall so that one, two or three holes are empty.
Step 8 Slide template down to ground level and repeat Steps 3,4,5, and 7 until fence is installed completely across creek. Attach existing fence as necessary to K-9 Katch/Kattle Keeper .
Maintenance
Maintenance of K-9 Katch/Kattle Keeper is minimal.
At most, it’s as easy as sliding some debris up and out of your KKS. Debris does not get tangled because there are NO wires, tires, barrels, panels or cross members where debris can hang up.
